About the Junior Choir

The Junior Choir is open to all students in 3rd-5th grades. Under the direction of Katie Coleman, the choir will perform at all 4 of our main choir concerts during the year. The Junior Choir will go on a 1-day performance tour each spring. Additional performances will be announced throughout the year. Expectations for rehearsals and performances are consistent attendance, respectful behavior, and a good team effort and attitude in all activities.

All are welcome to come check out a rehearsal and meet the director and fellow choir members!

“I love it! Once every year we get to go on a special fun trip, and I like rehearsing all the songs with my friends.” – Tolly

“I like the songs. They’re fun to sing. The songs are happy.” – Levi

About the Director

Katie Coleman, the director of the Junior Choir, teaches choir at North Eugene High School. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Oregon and a Masters in Music Education from Eastern Washington University. Katie is passionate about choral music and has taught and directed choral groups of all ages starting at only 15 years old when her church's children's choir needed a leader. Katie is also a professional pianist and has collaborated with dozens of choirs, instrumentalists, and singers in Washington and Oregon throughout her career. Katie has been a part of the Oregon Children’s Choir family for over 18 years as a parent, board member, accompanist, and director. Katie values the community and friendships that come from singing together both for students and for choir families and is committed to creating a positive, fun, and educative musical experience for choristers.

Time Commitment and Attendance

The choir rehearses together weekly and counts on all members to be present, working to learn the music together on the same timeline. Weekly attendance is crucial. Performances are the culmination and celebration of that work. Please make every effort to plan ahead and limit conflicts.
  • Attend all rehearsals. Please communicate with the director or parent helper as soon as possible in the event of an absence.
  • Perform with the choir at all concerts and tours including:
    • Fall Preview Concert - October
    • Winter Concert – December
    • Spring Concert - March
    • Finale Concert – June
    • 1-Day Performance Tour, May
The choral season is the full school year. While additional students are invited to join immediately following major concerts, students who enroll in the fall (and throughout the year) are expected to commit through the end of the year including the finale concert and spring tour.

Financial Commitment

The Oregon Children’s Choir is a non-profit organization. Its operating expenses, which include music, conductor’s salaries, and rehearsal space, are funded by chorister tuition.
  • Tuition for the upcoming season, September through June, is $480, or $175 per term. This amount includes a t-shirt.
  • Spring Performance Tour – approximately $75

We offer sibling discounts for families with more than one child enrolled with OCC. The discount is 25% off the second child’s tuition, and 50% off per chorister for any additional siblings. Discount is taken from the lower tuition(s). Note: Pay each chorister’s full tuition and the appropriate discount will be applied towards your chorister’s trip cost.

We offer several need based scholarships.  Please ask for a scholarship application with your registration materials, or tap here for a form you can print at home.
