The Oregon Young Low-Voice Ensemble is a Chamber Choir for Tenors and Basses from 9th grade through college led by Chris Dobson.
Rehearsals take place on Mondays, except for school holidays, at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St Eugene, OR 97401.
The Oregon Young Low-Voice Ensemble was founded in 1990 by the name of "Oregon Young Men's Ensemble," by Laurie Guttormsen as part of the Oregon Children's Choir. Since then, the choir has entertained people around the world and at home with high-level performances of challenging choral music. They are known for their blend, connection with the music they sing, and camaraderie with one another. In 2023, the group decided to change their name to "Oregon Young Low-Voice Ensemble" to better reflect the membership of the choir, as well as to make other young tenors and basses feel welcome to join, regardless of gender. This choir relies heavily on the leadership of its older members to be kind, encouraging guides for our younger members. The mentorships and bonds that develop have helped many kids feel welcome as they transition from elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school, and even high school to college. The choir is proud of their heritage, their community which is tight-knit yet easy to join, and the results of their hard work. Music reading is not required, but all singers should be prepared to work on improving their music reading skill.
