The Oregon Young Mens Ensemble is a 6-12th grade Chamber Choir for Tenors and Basses led by Chris Dobson.
The YME meets Mondays 6:45-8:45 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St Eugene, OR 97401
The Oregon Young Men's Ensemble was started in 1990 under the direction of Laurie Guttormsen as part of the Oregon Children's Choir. Over the following 18 years, the ensemble entertained crowds in Eugene and as far away as Europe, Mexico and China. When the economy turned in 2008, this tuition-based organization began to see a reduction in participation. A few years later, the organization chose to place the ensemble on hiatus. In 2016, the choir came back and is going strong. The ensemble is led by Chris Dobson, who is a former member of the ensemble and is now an award-winning choir director. He plans to retain the high level of musicianship and atmosphere of deep camaraderie the choir achieved in the past while aiming for the future with creative performances of challenging literature.
